"Light & uncompromising" – Sebastian Krogvig tests the Blacklight system

Sebastian Krogvig is a DYNAFIT athlete and a true mountain endurance athlete – in winter on ski tours, in summer on the trails and across ultra distances. He lives for fast ascents, technical ridges, and exploring new routes.

In his home region of Romsdalen, Norway, he tested the new Blacklight system exactly where gear can’t show any weaknesses. The goal: light en route, safe on the ridge – and often reaching the summit before the first light of day.

In this interview, he reveals why the Blacklight setup is the perfect tool for him – from the skis to the bindings to the backpack.

Light and powerful: First impressions

Sebastian, what was your first impression of the Blacklight system?

“I was honestly surprised at how light the system is, considering everything it can do. It almost feels like a race setup, but offers so much more reserve for tough terrain. The combination of lightweight materials and high performance convinced me right away.”

How would you describe your touring style?

“During the week, I’m usually all about speed – multiple summits in one session, quick movements, efficiency. Often I’m out so early that I see the sunrise from the summit – or even on my way down before the first light. That’s exactly why I need gear that doesn’t hold me back. On the weekends, it’s more about the experience: exploring new trails and routes, challenging ridges, adventures in unknown terrain. The Blacklight setup is perfect for both.”

The ultimate test on the ridge: Technique and speed

How did your first test go?

“One of my first tours was the east ridge of Kyrkjetaket. It’s a challenging ridge, 500 meters high with many technical sections. I was out alone – full concentration – and even set a personal best time.”

How did the setup perform in such exposed terrain?

“I had to walk a lot of passages, on narrow snow strips or over rocks. In such terrain, you need agility and control – and I had that. The ski can be guided super precisely, the Blacklight boot allows for excellent freedom of movement while providing secure support. Even when switching gear, everything is accomplished quickly. The ski attaches to the backpack immediately. This makes the whole system extremely flexible and reliable, especially in high alpine terrain.”

Safe descent despite lightweight design

Lightweight systems often mean compromises on the descent. How was your experience?

“Of course, there are limits. This isn’t a big mountain setup. But I was still able to pick up speed really well with the Blacklight system and steer the ski precisely. Especially in soft powder, riding is a lot of fun. Great ride feel and plenty of room for turns. The first turns from the summit were a real highlight.”

Was there anything that surprised you particularly?

“The downhill performance was really a surprise for me. At first, I felt like the setup was mainly made for climbing – but the descent really convinced me. My trust in the system has totally grown.”

Designed for the most demanding athletes

Which type of ski tourer do you think this system is especially suitable for?

“For everyone who wants to hit multiple peaks in a day and also tackle technically challenging sections. The system is perfect for those who want to travel light but still don’t want to compromise on performance on the descent.”

To wrap it up: If you had to describe the Blacklight system in three words?

“Lightweight. All-Mountain. Performance.”
