Our Commitment

Fair Working Conditions

The Fair Wear Foundation advocates for better working conditions in textile factories and has been working with the Oberalp Group for over ten years.

Since 2023, Oberalp (with brands like Salewa, Dynafit, Wild Country, and LaMunt) has been part of a pilot project focused on human rights due diligence. The goal is to provide more transparency in supply chains, better risk management, and real accountability—all in line with new legal requirements like the German Supply Chain Act and the upcoming EU directive.

Making sustainability measurable

As a member of Cascale (formerly Sustainable Apparel Coalition), we focus on international collaboration to systematically improve sustainability throughout the entire supply chain. The network brings together over 300 companies, manufacturers, NGOs, and other partners with the goal of advancing the social and ecological performance of the industry together.

With the help of the Higg tools provided by Cascale, we analyze and improve our processes throughout the entire supply chain from materials to production sites and all the way to the brand itself. These standardized tools make it possible to create a data-driven assessment of ecological and social impacts, like the carbon footprint, in the circular economy, or when choosing materials.

This way, we get solid insights, spot areas for improvement, and come up with targeted strategies together with our partners, for more transparency and sustainability.

Responsible material choice

When choosing our fabrics, we pay attention to the highest standards in terms of environmental and consumer protection. bluesign® is an important reference point for us in chemical management. Therefore, we prefer bluesign® certified fabrics when it comes to choosing materials.

Environmental protection

Today, about 60% of all textiles are made from synthetic fibers, and we also use materials like Gore®, Polartec®, and Primaloft®, because they are essential for mountain endurance sports: breathable, quick-drying, and thermoregulating.

But synthetic fibers also have their downsides: with every wash and wear, microfibers break off, and end up as microplastics in our waterways, and harm the environment.

As a member of the EOG Industry Microfiber Consortium, we’re working together with other brands to find solutions. In two projects, we’re studying how microfibers are released and which materials are particularly affected.

Supply Chain

The majority of our products are produced in Europe. The map illustrates where and what percent thereof:

When it comes to bindings and ski touring boots, 100 percent of production occurs in Europe. Textiles are still in large part imported from Asia. However, we pay special attention here to compliance with international work standards. This occurs in cooperation with the Fair Wear Foundation, which as an independent entity monitors us while it is also available to assist in the improvement of processes.

Fighting for the Snow Leopard

Since 2007, we’ve been supporting the Snow Leopard Trust—not just because the snow leopard is our trademark, but also because it’s an endangered species. Together with our community, we’re dedicated to protecting it.

In total, around €200,000 in donations was raised, complemented by equipment for wildlife rangers and creative fundraising initiatives.

Some of the highlights of our support:

  • Snow Leopard Day (since 2010): global events with tens of thousands of participants and over two million vertical meters collected in 2020 alone.
  • Sales and auctions of handmade plush toys and ski prototypes
  • Additional actions included the sale of a limited Snow Leopard collection (2022)
  • Jacket donations for wildlife rangers (2007)

We will continue to work passionately for the protection of the snow leopard, mainly through donations, events, and sustainable projects.
